Some of you have asked about the service ministry I referred to the last month but did not name. We are in the final talking stage with the Home Comforts leadership about ERCC taking on the physical end of collecting, sorting, storing, and distributing the household articles Home Comforts gives to the mentally ill. The details have not been worked out yet on their end but we have folks who are ready to help here at ERCC. Maybe you would like to help with this ministry? For those of you that are not familiar with Home Comforts here is a short description. Home Comforts is a ministry designed to help mentally ill adults who have reached the point that they can move into independent housing, i.e. their own apartment. The trouble is that the state moves them into a bare apartment –furniture, bed, table, chairs — but nothing else. They have no brooms, dust pans, dishes, eating utensils, towels, soap of any kind, sheets, blankets, pillows, pots or pans, drinking glasses…on and on.
Home Comforts supplies those (and more) needed items so that the person can have a functioning home; this one time delivery of household items enables the mentally ill to get started towards a more normal lifestyle. While these items are taken for granted by most of us, to the mentally ill person with a new, empty apartment the lack of these items can be a serious set-back. Home Comforts is a
